Wood Options for Custom Dining Tables
Wood species changes the look, hardness, grain and price of a table. Our core built-to-order choices are Douglas fir, alder, maple, oak and walnut.

Five Woods. Five Different Personalities.
The best wood is not always the most expensive one. A rustic Douglas fir or alder table can be exactly right in a mountain home, while white oak, maple and walnut offer cleaner or more premium directions.
Douglas Fir
$ — Rustic, warm and expressive with a mountain-home character.
Alder

Maple
$$ — Hard, clean and naturally light for a more contemporary look.
White Oak

Black Walnut
$$$$ — Rich color and distinctive grain for the premium Standard Collection option.
Choosing the Right Wood for a Custom Dining Table
Wood species affects much more than color. Grain, hardness, weight, availability, cost and the way a species accepts stain all influence the final table. Park City Tables offers five core woods in the built-to-order collection so customers can choose the balance of appearance and price that fits the project.
Douglas fir and alder: warm mountain character
Douglas fir offers pronounced grain and a naturally rustic feel. Alder is smooth, warm and versatile, making it a strong value choice for farmhouse and lodge-inspired tables. Both can work well when the goal is a substantial custom table without moving immediately into premium hardwood pricing.
Maple and white oak: clean and durable
Maple is naturally lighter with a tighter grain and works well in contemporary interiors. White oak has a more architectural grain pattern and a premium appearance that fits both modern and traditional mountain homes.
Black walnut: the premium standard option
Walnut is valued for its naturally rich color and expressive grain. It costs more than the other standard species, but it often needs less color manipulation because the wood itself provides much of the visual depth.
Douglas Fir
Warm, visible grain and knots. A natural fit for lodge and farmhouse styles.
Alder
Smooth, versatile and stain-friendly with a softer, warmer character.
Maple
Hard, naturally light and well suited to clean contemporary interiors.
White Oak
Durable, architectural and highly adaptable from natural to darker finishes.
Black Walnut
Rich natural color and expressive grain for a more luxurious finished table.
